LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday heard the petition against the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) led protest of opposition parties against the PML-N government, scheduled to begin on on January 17.
A three-member bench heard the petition.
The petition, filed by AK Dogar, states that the ‘grand protest’ is against the state and political parties should not take part in it. It stated that the protests called by political parties are against Article 124 of the Constitution, adding that such protests may cause disruption in the country.
It contended that the Mall Road is an economic hub and the protest will hinder livelihoods of people. As an alternative, the petitioner said that protests should be held in Nasir Bagh.
Taking action on the petition, the LHC sought replies from the federal government, PEMRA and other parties. The hearing is scheduled to resume at 9 AM tomorrow (Wednesday).
